Golden girl Tiler jumping for joy after latest success

There seems to be no stopping Bingley Harrier Rebekah Tiler this winter.

She broke another national record in the Yorkshire Regional Norwich Union Sportshall Athletics finals at North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax.

In helping West Yorkshire’s under-13 girls’ team to a 40-point victory over North Yorkshire, Denholme’s Tiler, pictured, won the vertical jump with a leap of 75 centimetres.

She had set two of the three records at the West Yorkshire trials at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre last month.

Tiler’s time of 25 seconds for the two-lap race and a vertical jump of 73cm were under-13 girls’ records.

Tiler also took gold in the two-lap race in Halifax and, with Ambah Thompson, in the eight-lap Paarlauf relay.

However, the under-13 boys took the biscuit when it came to a team performance, winning by 140 points from Humberside – all 12 of the West Yorkshire team coming home with at least one medal.

Both teams thus qualified for the United Kingdom finals at the NEC, Birmingham on Saturday, April 21.

Of the other two teams representing West Yorkshire, the under-15 girls were third behind Humberside and the under-15 boys second, North Yorkshire winning by a mere five points.

However, West Yorkshire’s Leon Greenwood was overall individual champion for the under-15 boys and will compete in Birmingham as an individual. He was also named Athlete of the Match, Tiler taking the female award.

West Yorkshire’s under-15 girls won five individual medals, with Erin Newsome winning medals in the two-lap race and the standing long jump before retiring with an injury.

The under-13 boys won 24 individual medals and all four relays, while the under-15 boys won 14 medals and took gold in the 4x2 relay.
