Marathon effort by Bantams and Terriers fans

West Yorkshire football rivalries will be put to one side to run for two charities.

Ardent City supporter Chris Lane and his Huddersfield-mad buddy Matthew Kellett aim to raise money for causes that are close to both clubs.

The pair will run the 28 miles from Town’s Galpharm Stadium to Bury for Huddersfield’s away game on Saturday, March 3.

They are also planning a second one later in the season, possibly from Macclesfield Town to Valley Parade for City’s home game on April 21 – a slog of 48 miles.

The money raised will go jointly to the Bradford Burns Unit, City’s chosen charity since the fire disaster in 1985, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Huddersfield have been supporting their “Keep It Up” campaign for the last two years.

Lane said: “We did the Leeds Abbey Dash together and then had a joke about doing something with the two clubs. A day later Matt told me he’d sorted it!

“We’re hoping to reach Gigg Lane between 2pm and 2.30pm and finish on the centre circle. I’m going to be doing it in claret and amber so I expect plenty of banter from the Huddersfield fans!

“Huddersfield have bent over backwards for us and there’s going to be a bucket collection outside their ground. Hopefully we’ll be able to do the same when we arrange something at City.

“We are both fit enough so it won’t be a problem, although running from Macclesfield’s quite a bit further. But when you’ve done 28 miles already, what’s another 20 or so?”
